Rectal Prolapse
I had such an amazing experience at Wellsprings Health with Dr. Leslie Wakefield. She is truly gifted at what she does. I came to see her with an extremely horrific and embarrassing problem-a rectal prolapse. It was difficult for me speak to anyone about this much less a stranger. She made me feel completely at ease with one of the most embarrassing and uncomfortable problems I've ever faced in my life. She was empathetic, compassionate and understanding throughout the entire process. She created a program for me which strengthens the pelvic floor and all the muscles in that area. It only took about 2 weeks before I noticed some results. I was thrilled that these results increased over time and keep increasing! Due to Dr Leslies program my prolapse has gotten a lot better, my body is able to deal with the situation better. Although it isn’t completely fixed, it’s at least a lot easier to go about my day to day life and my symptoms have improved immensely. She is not only a talented Dr, but she is also a very good person and she always made sure that I felt comfortable through this whole process. I really appreciate that and I recommend her services to anyone that may be going through rectal prolapse or vaginal prolapse. I feel very lucky to have found Dr. Leslie Wakefield and Wellsprings Health.
Pelvic and Sexual Pain after Breast Cancer Treatment
First I'd like to thank you both Dr. Leslie and Tanya for all your help. I think even as I get older, I still want intimacy to be a part of my life and marriage. Before coming to you I felt that my life wasn't meaningful as it should be. After starting my physical therapy with you both, I'm a lot more happier. Breast Cancer caused a lot of issues I nor my husband couldn't have imagined. I thank you for explaining to him that my issues were real even though I couldn't explain as I needed to. MY PELVIC PAIN WAS REAL. I'm more relaxed since my therapy. I've even learned more about what was going on with my body and scar tissue and the issues it also caused. I not only see a difference, I FEEL A DIFFERENCE. I don't feel like I'm alone in my issues. I've been reading the comments on this blog and I so admire the patients who left comments. You are all my heroes in so many ways as December 2018 made 10 years since my diagnosis. It's taken me this long to reach out , I kept quiet, so I am so happy I was referred to these two Brilliant therapists. My life is so much more ENRICHED because of Dr. Leslie and Tanya. I am still being treated and every time I leave my appointments , every time I read a new comment I am so much more happier. I'm not defective anymore. I am a normal woman with issue brought on by an illness. To Dr. Leslie and Tanya, I am still and will continue to learn with my therapy. I AM TRULY GRATEFUL.
Herniated Disc
Leslie and Tanya make an amazing team. They’ve helped me with my herniated disk and I’m truly grateful for my treatment. I suffered from lower back pain for about 15 years (herniated disc L4-L5). I was in serious pain when I started my PT with them and after a couple of days doing the exercises they recommended, my pain was gone. Now I’m done with my treatment and doing my maintenance exercises at home religiously. My back is stronger than ever, I feel great and I know what to do at any sign of pain. I haven’t allowed myself to develop a crisis since. I feel healed and connected with my body, I’m finally in charge! Even my posture has improved, thank you ladies!
Pudendal Neuralgia, Urinary Incontinence, Fecal Incontinence
"Thanks to therapy with Wellsprings, I got my life back. I was desperate with my pudendal neuralgia, a little known disease. After a doctor injected my buttock to treat the pain everything got worse. Thank God I found Dr. Leslie on google. I could not sit!!! Not for 2 seconds. I had to lie on my stomach. I couldn't drive, I ate standing up, and the burning - pain was constant under my buttocks, it felt like a needle in my buttock.🤦🏻♀️
I was desperate !! From the first sessions I began to feel improvement, very slight but that indicated to me that I was on the right path. Thus I began to trust Dr. Leslie more. At home I did every exercise she gave me. I learned to listen to everything she told me and learned more about my illness. I went twice a week. She told me that it would be a process and that there would be good days and bad days, but that it will not faint along the way. With this in mind I put all my effort, my strength and the trust in God that would heal me someday. I learned to live with pain , because I knew in my mind that one day I would leave and that I was going to be stronger than my pain. My doctor prescribed me Lyrica and Amytriptiline with this combination of medications and the therapies my pain went away. I thank Leslie from the bottom of my heart ❣ for helping me with such patience, dedication, gentleness, for her advice, for speaking in such detail about what I was going to do and what my body was going to feel. I learned with Leslie to differentiate between what is a pain, a sensitivity, soreness, or burning, in this way she knew with certainty how to perform the therapy.
I appreciate the Doctor's professionalism and the way she explained things in such detail, I wish the other therapists were like her .
Apart from my pudendal neuralgia, She also took my urinary and fecal incontinence away! A horrible situation, but she told me from the beginning that she had a solution and could also take it away. My urinary incontinence disappeared and for the fecal I had to take citrucel twice a day. Do not hesitate for 1 second to consult Dr. Leslie if you have any problems in your pelvic floor , you will be in the best hands and she WILL HEAL YOU."
Abdominal and Pelvic Adhesions
"I wish I found Leslie earlier in my life! I suffer from scar adhesions throughout my stomach that have caused medical issues. At my wits end I decided to try therapy. I’ve never felt so good! Since working with Leslie, she has then expanded my treatment to other problem areas. She takes personal care and time into each patient."
Chronic Nerve Pain in Both Legs
"Raquel is a very warm and friendly first impression of your office! Dr. Wakefield embodies doctors who encourage a team approach rather than being a solitary advisor. Not just exceptionally skilled in her field, she's blessed with a gift that can't be taught -- insight and reassurance for those of us feeling tossed about in a sea of practitioners' opinions."
Tailbone Pain, Affecting Bowel Movements
"I discovered Dr. Leslie Wakefield in a panic after many YouTube and google searches on tailbone pain; by some miracle she was located near my home. I had be having tailbone pain upon standing for about 7-8 months prior. After sitting for more than 20 min I grew use to the sharp pain when I stood up and brushed it off. It started to get worse and I started to feel pain when I sat down. I finally decided it was time to seek help when my bowel movements started to be affected. It had been 3 days no bowel Movement which set me in a panic; I felt the urge but it’s was as if the muscle (sphincter) was not cooperating. On the 3rd day I discovered her website and emailed her; I received a call from her and set up and appointment that week. She made me feel comfortable with the treatments; she explained everything in detail as to what was going on with my body. Being 26 years I had not expected anything of this nature to be happening to me, there was no injury to the area that caused this tailbone pain. I’m happy to say it’s 6 months later and I’m about 75% better. I use my donut cushion just on long car rides and I feel I am healing. What use to be a 7-8 on the pain scale when I sit down is now a lingering 2-3. No trouble with bowel movements since I completed the 2nd week of treatment. I am completely regular. It has been a few months since I had an appointment and with the exercises she gave me I’m still heading in the right direction. I try to keep up with my exercises at home, and I’m glad to know she’s just a phone call away if I need further assistance or if I hit a plateau. If you are having tailbone pain don’t hesitate, this is the healer you need to see.
Thank you Dr. Leslie"
Lower Back Pain
"I've had lower back pain for the past 10 years which got increasingly worse after the birth of my twins when I was 35. A few weeks after my C-section my lower back went out and I was in bed for 5 days, I could not walk. I could barely get through the day taking painkillers around the clock. It doesn't help that I work as a dental hygienist and sit 8 hours a day. I have left work many times after my back would go out right in the middle of the day. I saw numerous chiropractors, doctors, massage therapists, and I even had 2 PRP injections done which all helped temporarily. I was thinking surgery was my next route and started doing some online research when I came across pelvic floor specialists. That's when I called Leslie and she was able to see me within a week.
With a few simple exercises that can be done at home for 10 to 15 minutes a day, I started feeling improvement. Road trips used to be an absolute nightmare. I used to be in excruciating pain for days following a 3-hour car ride. I only had three therapy sessions with Leslie and car rides are not an issue anymore. My family and I went on a 12-hour road trip and surprisingly I never experienced any of the usual pain.
Thank you Leslie for giving me my life back!!! So grateful I found you!"
Sacroiliac Joint Pain (Lower Back Pain)
I am a 53 year old very active woman. But at around 48 years of age I began to struggle with S.I.Joint pain. I could just be bending over to grab something, my back would go out and I could be bedridden for days on steroids and muscle relaxers until it subsided. Prior to visiting Dr. Leslie Wakefield I would wake up each morning with S.I.Joint pain.
I have always been a very active person, jogging 2 days a week, pure barre, walking but experienced constant discomfort.
I moved to Miami and began Pilates which began my recovery. It wasn’t until I went to my first visit to Dr. Leslie that I actually felt like a new person. With each appointment my body felt realigned, the pain diminished and I was back to my 30 year old body. Dr. Leslie has also given me exercises to do at home which helps me each morning to make sure my body is aligned for the day. She is amazing. I call her my Guru because I haven’t felt this good in a long time.
Male Pelvic Pain
After having suffered with chronic pain for over 8 years, having visited more doctors and specialists than I care to remember, having had surgeries and done years of PT, and yet finding my self dealing with the same debilitating pain when sitting, I discovered Dr. Leslie Wakefield.
From the initial consultation it was easy to tell that she is truly passionate about helping those in need find true answers and not just projecting her answers onto their symptoms. I chose to travel across the entire country to visit her. She was as gracious and professional in person as she had been on the phone and went above and beyond to help me feel comfortable and provide me with incredible care. I left our visit with a sense of hope and direction I had not experienced in many years, that hope is priceless to me, and I feel has bolstered me on a better path to healing from the excruciating pain I have had when sitting.
My heartfelt thanks for Dr. Leslie Wakefield
Painful Intercourse and Urinary Urgency after Childbirth
My birth was a long and painful birth, epidural didn’t work so I was in pain for an entire day from 5 am until 11 pm that my son was born. They ended up cutting me to get my baby out and ever since then my bladder couldn’t wait when I needed to pee , plus intercourse became painful and uncomfortable, 2 years of this until thankfully I told one of my friends and she recommended a pelvic floor doctor, I found one and he recommended some therapy with Leslie, she’s the most amazing therapist with such a nice vibe and very informative, very gentle and sweet , after our first session I started feeling better, I started not having to rush so much to the bathroom and My pelvic muscles started to feel a little stronger and just with the first session !
I’m so mad my OBGYN never told me I was injured from the cut and birth and never mention anything to me .
Thank God my friend informed it wasn’t normal and it wasn’t gonna just go away without help i obviously looked for help immediately ! Leslie is giving me back a piece of myself that I thought it was never gonna go back to normal.
Post Surgical Dyspareunia (pain with intercourse)
I am writing to you to let you know that the physical therapy that you taught me in the session that we had worked wonderfully. I spent 20 minutes each day with the Dialator and some estrogen cream. At the end of several weeks [of self treatment] I was able to resume my sexual activity with my husband. Thank you for your patience and the clear explanation and demonstration of what I needed to do and I also am grateful to my husband for his patience and consistent encouragement. Please share my experience with any other patients that you have who are suffering because of surgeries that were done incorrectly or any other reason.
Uterine Prolapse
Today I was thinking of how much I appreciate your sincere, empathetic, knowledgeable and professional care. When I first e-mailed you to make an appointment I was anxious and felt like I was lost. In a way it was as if I were wrapped up inside a diagnosis of thick fog. Because of your sincere empathetic approach I was able to learn how to lift that fog, and began the work of becoming aware of ways to move to joy.
Thank you for your attention, care, reassurance, and consistent encouragement. Your expertise and dedication to giving instruction while relieving doubt &pain to me is pure sunshine! The valuable information that you are sharing with me has helped me with the courage to ask questions and move from fearfulness to self-awareness, and greater health.
Thank you for listening to my concerns with sincerity. I really appreciate your discreet holistic approach, and honoring my appointment times. Mostly I want to thank you for sharing with me your ability to logically make complex information easy to understand and follow.
Coccydynia (Tailbone Pain)
When I first came to Dr. Wakefield’s office I was very anxious. I had been to multiple practitioners and felt like there was no one who could help me. I went to Dr. Wakefield for both tailbone pain and later on for healing from a foot surgery once I realized how talented she was. She’s been able to help me tremendously with both issues and I am eternally grateful that I found her.
When you are in the health field like me, you feel trapped when you don’t feel healthy. Not being able to exercise or to manage my stress I started to feel depressed and wondered if I would ever be able to live the life I wanted again.
With my tailbone I was physically limited in every moment of every day for over a year and a half (sitting, driving, walking, and exercise.) When we started to work together I was so tired of explaining my condition, symptoms and medical history that I found myself at a loss for words. I didn’t want to waste my time, money and energy on another session that wouldn’t result in any changes- I was exhausted with trying and getting nowhere.
Instantly I could see a difference in her approach- I could see she was actually listening to me- and not rushing through my concerns. She clearly explained her approach given my symptoms but always checked in to make sure I felt safe throughout the treatments. From that first session I started to feel hope again. After feeling like I might never be healthy again, having hope was the best feeling I could have imagined. The office environment is also unique in that it is quiet, private and comfortable which allows you to relax and focus on healing.
In my ongoing sessions I have healed both mentally and physically. I would rather drive an hour each way to my sessions with her (and that’s saying a lot when you’re trying to heal tailbone pain!) than to go to a practitioner that doesn’t have her skillset. She’s truly a gem.
Dr. Wakefield is patient, detail-oriented, compassionate and skilled at explaining your body’s unique healing process in a way that you appreciate your body in a new way. She looks at the body holistically, never rushing your body to heal more than it is ready to. I’ve tried traditional physical therapy, alternative therapies, and chiropractic care and my body did not respond. I was told that the pain was necessary to heal- but now I know differently.
I would recommend anyone that feels scared, hopeless or in pain to give Dr. Wakefield a chance. I guarantee after you speak with her for one session you will feel confident that you have made the right decision. Listen to her guidance and your healing will follow.
Abdominal and Pelvic Pain Due to Adhesions
I am very grateful to Leslie. I was experiencing pelvic and bowel pain due to adhesions after several pelvic surgeries. After only a few sessions with her , and with the exercises that she sent me to do at home, my pain faded and my life improve significantly. She is the most professional, caring and loving physiotherapist I know. She listens to her patients and makes sure that you feels comfortable while she works with you. She is always checking on you. She really cares about her patients.
Painful Sex Since Hymenectomy
I had a procedure called a hymenectomy at 17 years old. Before then I was never able to insert even my pinkie finger nevertheless enjoy a sex life. I endured countless painful examinations by qualified gynecologists who told me I was completely normal and that the issue was all in my head. Some even suggested the pain of a hymen ripping during sex is normal and must be experienced by all women. The doctor who did my surgery is a very well accomplished gynecologist who assessed me in five minutes and knew the issue I had known myself all along; I had a microperforated hymen. After the procedure, tampons and fingers were of no issue, and I even was able to have sex.
However, the trauma of my past exams and painful attempts at sex stuck with me on a deeper level. When I entered my first serious relationship with someone I trusted fully, a lot of these emotions and thoughts began to arise within me. Something in me told me that sex wasn't supposed to be accompanied by pain and discomfort. I didn't have to learn how to enjoy the pain that I was experiencing. This is not to say that all my sexual encounters were completely filled with agony and no pleasure, but rather I always experienced a mild to moderate sensation of pain mixed with pleasure that I presumed to be normal and that all women experience.
My partner encouraged me to seek help. Some thorough research on Google led me to the discovery of what a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist is. At first glance, it can seem like a crazy and invasive practice. But looking at it just like any other medical practice, the pelvic floor muscles are a part of the body just like anything else and naturally will need treating in their lifetime of work. My research led me to Leslie and after just one session, I noticed a difference in the level of discomfort/pain normally experienced during sex. We had several more sessions after that, one including my partner to better educate him on my anatomy as well as where any painful trigger points I have are located. It is appalling to me that something like this was never suggested by any of my doctors when I have complained of pain with intercourse. Even more appalling is that I have just recently learned of this practice even existing. I am eternally grateful to Leslie for aiding me in healing my pain and bringing awareness to an aspect of myself that I have felt disconnected from for years.
I am so impressed by the quality of care offered by Dr. Wakefield . There is such intention in providing a space that feels safe, private and focused on the client's needs. The Physical Therapy and MyoFascial Release Therapy combined have provided tremendous healing and sense of wellbeing. It has been my great fortune to receive this professional care.
Coccydynia, Lower Back Pain:
Dear Leslie, You are a True Healer.
My 2 hours spent with you was Amazing.
After 10 years of no sleep with lower back pain at night when trying to sleep and now 7 months of not being able to get up from a sitting position I found you😘
All Drs. Wanted to do is give shots ( that didn't last) and never said what was wrong with me.
You knew exactly where my problems were and went right to gently healing my pain. Only 1 treatment and I am getting up from my chair WITHOUT any knife like pain in my butt "Literally".
And you started treatment on my back problem of not being able to Sleep in any laying position. It took me years to learn to sleep in a sitting fetal position after buying a 3,000.00 electric bed.
There isn't enough THANK YOUS or HUG.
My Husband of 45 years was so impressed after watching the whole experience he is a true believer now.
Do the research, you will find a TRUE HEALER. 😘👍🏻😀👌🌙🌟
Thank you so so much ❤️
Coccydynia (Tailbone Pain):
"In August, 2015 I began to have pain in my tailbone. I was unsure of what could have caused this pain and decided to just walk it off. I thought it would go away within a week or two. Going into September I realized it was not going away and it caused me pain to drive to work, sit in an office chair, lay in bed and tie my shoes. I started doing online research on the matter which brought me to Coccyx.org in which I realized I was not alone. I found an article that Leslie had written in regards to tailbone misalignment, which made me feel more comfortable about approaching Wellsprings Health. Going into my first appointment, I was nervous and a little embarrassed because of the region the pain was in. Leslie was very professional and knowledgeable which made me feel comfortable about explaining my symptoms. Leslie provided me with a variety of tools that I would exercise throughout my treatment at Wellsprings. As of February, 2016 I am able to drive to work, sit at the office, lay in bed, tie my shoes with no pain, rarely will I feel some discomfort (usually after a mountain biking ride) that reminds me to act upon the material that Leslie has taught me. I'm very thankful to Leslie for providing me with exceptional treatment and highly recommend her to anyone seeking physical therapy. "
Vaginismus:
"I can't recommend Leslie enough. My husband and I were married last year and discovered on our honeymoon that I suffered from a condition called vaginismus, which made vaginal penetration very painful and impossible because my pelvic floor muscles would involuntarily clamp up at even the mere slightest touch. I was devastated and struggled for over a year with the condition. But Leslie made my recovery possible. I had already been to another physical therapist who, while helpful, was not able to help me truly progress in my treatment. Leslie is not only skilled in her knowledge of what is required to help her client overcome a condition like this one, but she has the ability to communicate it and help her client be receptive to the advice or instruction, which as a patient can be very hard to accept with this condition. Not only were my husband and I able to consummate our marriage just a few months after I began seeing Leslie, but she also helped me recover from a surgery that had left me with some tension in my upper body. Using myofascial release, Leslie helped my posture and my discomfort tremendously. "
Lower Back Pain:
"Leslie Wakefield is a rare gem in the field. She creates a highly personalize and safe environment for healing by wedding a keen awareness of each client's needs with her extensive expertise and training. Working with her I not only saw results, but I experienced a 'process'. "
